Savannah
I first learned about Savannah through Allan Jacobs' Great Streets, where it's often cited as a near-perfect example of how urban form alone can shape livable streets. Savannah wasn't planned with “walkability” as we define it today, but its repeating ward-and-square system shows how a city can grow incrementally, without losing its human scale.
⭐︎
hotel
Once a mid-century bank, the
Municipal Grand is now a beautiful, thoughtfully designed hotel — stylish, full of character, and perfectly situated in the heart of Savannah.
⭐︎
inside
I initially planned to separate galleries from shops, but Savannah resists that kind of sorting — galleries sell, shops curate, and everything just feels so intentional.
Gutstein Gallery
free gallery featuring rotating work by SCAD students and faculty, with many pieces available for sale.
a great example of how art schools can support emerging artists while making contemporary work accessible to the public.

shopSCAD

Asher + Rye

PW Short

⭐︎
outside
Forsyth Park
this park has it all: a long promenade with open lawns, a café, playgrounds, and tennis and basketball courts

all the squares
Chippewa, Madison, Pulaski, Telfair, Ellis… they'll be hard to miss!

all the streets
there are so many beautiful streets, but if i had to pick favorites those would be Whitaker, Liberty, Abercorn, Habersham, Liberty, and Bull

Here are also two walking routes:
- Classic — a straightforward walk that stays mostly within downtown, connecting Savannah’s familiar highlights.
- Exploratory — a more adventurous loop that ventures beyond the immediate downtown.
